Rainbow Place... 'we're living it'

Welcome to Rainbow Place Hospice Waikato’s Rainbow Place is New Zealand’s only specialist children’s and young person’s hospice service.

It’s a very special place that’s dedicated to providing the very best care and support for children and young people and their families who are living with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition.

Rainbow Place is about life . . . real life in all its colour.  We provide counselling, care and support to help children and young people get through tough times the best way they can.  Life isn’t always easy, but it’s always precious and we’re dedicated to helping our clients get the very most out of it.  All of us here at Rainbow Place – kids, teenagers, parents, counsellors, nurses, support staff and volunteers - do the best we can to help make life that little bit better.  At Rainbow Place we’re living every inch of it.

Care and Support for Children and Young People Living Through...

Change, Loss & Grief

Watching a loved one go through serious illness is tough for anyone, especially a young person. Rainbow Place provides specialised care for children and young people living with change, loss and grief, in a caring, relaxed, and friendly environment. "You might be having counselling, but you won’t even know it!"

Serious illness
Rainbow Place provides specialised nursing care and support for children and young people living with serious illness.  We work in the community, in homes, schools and hospitals.  We also offer 1-2 night sleepovers in our purpose-built facility for children and young people with a serious illness. There is also accommodation for their families to stay.

Death of a Loved One

The death of a loved one is traumatic whether it is unexpected or as a result of a long illness.  For children and young people, it can mean that the one person they might normally go to for help is no longer there.  Rainbow Place works with families to help them through those tough times.

Working with Children and Young People?

If you’re a clinician, GP, nurse, counsellor, or a professional working with children and young people, our online referral form is quick and easy to complete. If you’re a parent or caregiver, the referral form is user-friendly, or if you prefer you can phone and a member of staff will complete a form.  If you’re a young person looking for support, we are here to help, and only a mouse-click away.

Help... I Know Someone!

You don’t need to be a doctor or a professional to make a referral or an enquiry.  And if we can’t help you we’ll put you on to someone who can.  We specialise in supporting and caring for:

  • Children and young people affected by the serious illness of a loved one
  • Children and young people who themselves have a serious illness
  • Children and young people affected by the death of a loved one (including sudden death)

If you think you know someone affected by any of the above, please call us or use our referral form.  We’d love to help, that’s why we’re here.
