Referral Criteria – Who Can We Help?


Who can be referred to Rainbow Place?

  • Children and young people who have a life-limiting or life-threatening condition (see definition of terms).
  • Children and young people affected by the serious illness of a loved one who is under the care of Hospice Waikato adult services.
  • Children and young people affected by the sudden or unexpected death of someone close to them.


Support is available at Rainbow Place, in the home or other community settings.

 We work with:

  • Healthcare professionals
  • Families, friends and relatives
  • Schools
  • Social services


Who Can Make a Referral?

Anybody can make a referral to Rainbow Place, you can even refer yourself if you are a teenager.  However, we are a specialised service which means there are referral criteria that we follow to make sure our service is for you

We welcome referral/enquiries from any concerned person: friends, family, G.P.s, nurses, counselors, schools, social services, healthcare professionals, parents, caregivers, and young people themselves.  The online referral form is quick, simple and direct!
